I am here, Walt Whitman.
I come tonight to say that our destinies are inextricably
linked together. Oh, how I have loved America - the high
America of noble ideals and noble aspirations, not the
America of materialism and hypocrisy. Just as the book
["The American Soul" by Jacob Needleman] said, these are
two completely different sides to our country.
You will find as your days evolve that your happiness will
become more and more solidly based, so that earthplane
troubles and conditions will not affect your moods, since
you are building a foundation on rock and not on sand.
The world needs visionaries, mystics, people who see
beyond appearances. This is what I tried to convey in
"Leaves of Grass," and what you did in "Flowers of Hope."
The poet can help people pierce the veil of the ordinary
and transform it into the extraordinary.
You are wondering how I am still concerned about America if I am an advanced spirit. Well, the truth is not
quite so black and white. My progress over here has not been very quick, as Marcel Proust's was. I early on
decided that I wanted to take my time. Furthermore, I had many issues to sort out, some of which made me unhappy.
Of course, I was not essentially a sinful soul on Earth, and yet certain concerns really caused me to struggle
on this side of life.
But along with these struggles was my mystical vision, which followed me here. And now that I have successfully
grappled with most of these issues and overcome, my vision has been liberated to guide me through God's plan
for my life. I always knew that this poetic vision was a gift from the Lord. But over here, the aspirations
which this vision elicits have been realities. It is like "Leaves of Grass" in gorgeous, amplified
stereo. My inner personal life has merged with this vision, so that I am now much closer to the ecstatic lover
of my earthly poetry. That is, there is less hindrance of any kind.
