I am here, John Chrysostom.
Yes, I was a firebrand and a hothead for truth. I could not tolerate
injustice or hypocrisy, no matter how highly placed. This produced
a great peace in my soul, since I always sought to be true to myself.
As a result, I was able to bear my misfortunes more easily. And
when I came over here, this quality worked toward an even greater
happiness and serenity in my soul.
Saint John Chrysostom (c. 347407), archbishop of Constantinople,
was an important Early Church Father. He is known for his eloquence
in preaching and public speaking, his denunciation of abuse of authority
by both ecclesiastical and political leaders, the Divine Liturgy
of St. John Chrysostom, and his ascetic sensibilities. After his
death (or, according to some sources, during his life) he was given
the Greek surname chrysostomos, meaning "golden mouthed",
rendered in English as Chrysostom. (Source: Wikipedia)
