I am here, Moses.
As a healthy young man, I was attracted to women, and it
was felt
that I myself was attractive.
When I was a prince, there were definite plans to have me
marry a woman of noble birth who was high up in the social
hierarchy. In those days, questions of love were not even
considered. Since we were all conditioned since childhood
to think this way, we did not have a lot of the heartbreak
that occurs in your time, since we felt that this was
reality.
But when I met Zipporah in Midian, all that changed. I had
a powerful bond with her whole family, who had rescued me
from being abandoned. When I told her my story, she was
deeply moved. This response, plus physical attraction,
resulted in our falling in love. It was a brand-new
experience for me, and I knew that once again, God was
working for my happiness.
In my journey, Zipporah was always right beside me with
her support and guidance. Indeed, she was one of the main
factors that sustained me. You know from experience that
it is vital to have someone who believes in us in order
for us to do our dream. Well, Zipporah supplied that need,
and I thanked the Lord for it. And when we had children,
this cemented our bond even more.
It has been felt that the attitude and behavior toward
women of my Israelite society was rather primitive, and so
it was. In some respects, women were even seen as chattel.
But here and there, a relationship arose that broke this
mold. My relationship with Zipporah was one such
relationship. For I had a sense of a higher destiny, and
knew intuitively that I must adopt a positive, respectful
attitude to women in order to be true to myself.
I also knew that love between man and woman was holy, this despite other conflicting prevailing attitudes.
I witnessed much disrespect for women, but held to my esteem and respect for Zipporah. I knew that this was
the right path for me.
Though I was the leader, I could not force my views on the
others - it wasn't my nature to do so.
