In 1965 two academics, Dr. Helen Schucman and Dr. William
Thetford at Columbia University became frustrated with the
aggressive behaviour that characterised their interactions.
What followed was a typical Divine intervention, and in this
case, the process continued until 1972 as a major work "A
Course in Miracles" was developed by a process of
inner dictation. Neither were particularly spiritual in outlook,
in fact one was a professed atheist. The style of the book
is somewhat academic, and it is not a religious framework,
but it is very intellectually appealing.
ACIM
is not for everyone. It is quite specifically a program to
open up the soul and to allow one to hear
one's inner voice. The text is very heavy going in parts,
and quite illuminating in others, but the exercises are a
very clever mind reprogramming. It is invaluable to those
who have had a traumatic life which has scarred the psyche.
ACIM is very much in accord with the messages of Padgett and
Samuels. This is not surprising, as the "author"
of ACIM may be Jesus. If you are having difficulty opening
your soul to accept Divine Love, ACIM could remove the blockage.
This is particularly the case where self esteem has been damaged,
or the ego is running rampant. I would describe the book as
amazing and a major addition to my journey, although I did
not find it necessary to spend the year on the suggested exercises.
It is however not a religious framework, quite simply because
it is too abstract. We have been told many times that God's
Truth is simple enough for all to understand.
There was a very unfortunate and unbecoming copyright action
involving ACIM and JCIM, the original text, often called the
Urtext. There has now been a judgement, and all these works
are free of copyright, so the Truth is free. The angels have
prevailed.
Once I believed I had found the Truth, I tested it. In this
case it was easy. The Truths tell how if you pray to God for
His Divine Love you will feel it physically flow into you.
I tried it, and it does. They
also tell how you will find it easy to avoid sin, once you
have this Divine Love in your soul. I have found this is also
true. I am now on a journey without end. May the Truth be
in you, and may you find your way to the Lord.
