Let me correct this confusion in your mind. You channeled Judah Maccabee as saying that physical violence takes its toll in suffering. But you have read that Angelic intervention for mortals sometimes takes the form of physical violence.
In the instances you have read about1, which really did take place, the physical violence only went as far as scaring the perpetrator away. Sometimes, physical force is required to save a mortal from danger. But it is never the intention to cause grievous physical harm, as occurs in the heat of battle, with all its attendant emotions of hatred and revenge.
