My Spiritual Journey.

in the mid 1910’s….

“We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when adults are afraid of the light.” Plato

James E. Padgett, (1852-1923) discovered that he was psychic in 1914, and began to receive a very large number of messages - eventually more than 2,500. He was originally of the Methodist faith. His close companion, Dr Leslie Stone, attended most of these automatic writing sessions and was ultimately responsible for publishing the revelations in 1940. His testimony is an excellent outline of how things started and evolved. A lawyer by profession, James Padgett was reluctant to accept the source of many of the messages - Jesus of Nazareth. A long series of supporting messages were sent, from virtually every apostle, and many others. He had already made contact with both his wife and grandmother in the spirit world, and they too confirmed that Jesus had chosen him for a series of revelations. In this respect, it was made clear that he had not been chosen for his spiritual strength, but rather for his open mind and psychic abilities. In fact he was by no means the first medium to have been tried. See Swedenborg and comments on his failure. What proof is there?

The messages are sorted into three - the initial series where Mr Padgett is convinced of the source, and urged to develop his soul via the Divine love, so that higher truths can be revealed, the second series of higher truths, where Jesus explains many of the errors contained in the Bible, both New and Old Testament, and a final collection of assorted messages from some of the many and varied spirits that he contacted. Apparently Mr Padgett was instrumental in getting many a spirit to acknowledge the Divine Love, and progress to the Celestial heavens.

Most significant in the Padgett writings is the concept of the Divine Love, and how this was in fact the primary message of Jesus’ life, but has been lost in the New Testament. Can these messages be reconciled with the New Testament, even though this has been misrecorded, translated and altered over the years?

Most challenging for me was not the fact that a huge amount of “dogma” is shown to be false, but a throwaway line about reincarnation caught my eye. I guess I had long been disillusioned about what I was taught by the Catholic Church, but having only very recently read a very reasoned explanation of reincarnation in the Allan Kardec books, this short paragraph was for me a very major issue. Fortunately the subject is covered in more depth in the years ahead. The real significance of the Padgett messages is the revelation that this constitutes the second coming of Jesus.
